What is Hypnosis and Hypno-Psychotherapy?

For over 200 years the technique of hypnosis has been used in medicine to treat a wide range of physical, psychological and emotional issues. It has also been long recognised that hypnosis may successfully be combined with other approaches and techniques in counselling and psychotherapy to bring about positive and lasting change. In 1997 the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) formally endorsed the hypno-psychotherapy, as the `branch of psychotherapy which uses hypnosis'.
Hypnosis customarily creates a deeply relaxed state in which mental stress and bodily tension are reduced. In this relaxed state, the mind is usually more open to the process of change and therefore client and therapist can work together, using an agreed approach, to enhance mental, physical and emotional well being. Positive and lasting results are achieved in:

Cessation of dependencies and habits:

  • Smoking
  • Weight management
  • Nail biting

Optimising psychological well-being:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Management of stress related disorders:

  • Phobias
  • Panic attacks
  • Insomnia
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Achieving Personal Growth:

  • Building/rebuilding self-esteem
  • Resolving relationship difficulties
  • Enhancing job/career satisfaction
  • Improving sports performance

Managing personal crises:

  • Accident/trauma
  • Bereavement
  • Redundancy
  • Divorce
  • Coping with illness/pain

How it Works?

At the initial consultation the issue or problem to be resolved is discussed, together with the treatment approach, the anticipated number of sessions and the likely cost. During the hypnosis session the client is guided into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation. The client will be still aware of their surroundings and can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time. The experience is deeply relaxing. As part of the therapy, self-hypnosis is taught to enable the client to continue to make use of this relaxing technique in every day life. The New Haw Therapy Clinic offers specific programmes for quitting smoking, achieving your ideal weight and stress management.
